Racing the Clock to Find a Locum Provider – FocusOne Case Study

Locum Physiatrist

FocusOne Solutions® was engaged by a long-term acute care hospital that was associated with a 500+ bed, Level 1 teaching facility located in Georgia to assist in helping them find a locum Physiatrist. The facility’s Chief Medical Officer had resigned, providing a 30-day notice on the first of the month, and the hospital needed a temporary replacement who had a background in rehabilitation to start immediately.

Due to the short time frame, it was important to find a candidate as soon as possible to get the provider through the credentialing process before the Chief Medical Officer left. FocusOne accepted the task and began searching for candidates whose experience matched the facility’s requirements. The hospital’s location in a small town of less than 1,000 people posed the challenge of finding candidates, but FocusOne had a quick turnaround of potential locums, submitting the first candidate four days after the facility’s request was sent and a second candidate 10 days later.

After interviewing both candidates, the hospital selected the first candidate who was submitted. FocusOne knew that in order for the provider to start on time, they needed the credentialing process to begin immediately—especially since physicians need to be privileged at the facility, which can take 4-6 weeks. The hospital’s CEO worked with its Corporate, Legal, and Human Resources teams to finalize privileging in a timely manner, while FocusOne was able to quickly complete all standard health compliance.

The result of the partnership between FocusOne and the long-term acute care facility was incredibly successful with the locum fully compliant and started in three weeks, as well as placed into a 6-month assignment.
