Finding Locum Nurse Practitioners with an Aggressive Turnaround Time—FocusOne Case Study

FocusOne Solutions® was engaged by a 295 bed teaching hospital in Hawaii to help them find a locum Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and a locum Electrophysiology Nurse Practitioner. The hospital was experiencing an increase in census, and they needed experienced Nurse Practitioners who were willing to travel, be open to a flexible schedule, and were licensed in Hawaii, or willing to obtain a license.

With the immediate need of having an increased census, as well as Hawaii’s licensing taking longer than their standard processing time due to the board being short staffed, finding candidates whose knowledge and skills matched the facility’s needs was crucial.

FocusOne provided a quick turnaround of potential locums by submitting an Electrophysiology candidate within five days and a Neonatal candidate within two weeks of the facility’s request. The client immediately felt both candidates were a match for their positions and asked for them to start as soon as possible.

FocusOne knew that the credentialing process needed to start right away in order for both locums to begin at the estimated start date—especially since each candidate needed to be privileged at the facility, have all of the proper Hawaii licensing, and go through a final review by a committee at the hospital, which could all take six weeks to complete. In order for the candidates to be fully compliant on time, FocusOne worked closely with its staffing agencies and the hospital’s Credentialing Department to  make sure verification was going smoothly and to request a rush on the committee review.

The results of the partnership were highly successful, and both candidates were able to start sooner than the estimated time. Due to the high quality of work from both hires, the facility planned to extend their contracts and permanent future employment was also discussed.
